UNICAT Fahrzeugbau GmbH was established by Thomas Ritter on April 1, 1990.
By setting new standards of excellence in engineering, manufacture and service, UNICAT quickly became a global leader in the Expedition Vehicle industry.
1990: Company launch
1991: Successful preparation and participation in Paris - Dakar Rally
1992: Start of close co-operation with Mercedes-Benz Unimog
1994: Performance of extensive chassis modifications
1996: First expedition-mobiles on MAN basis
1999: Manufacture of UNICAT-designed chassis featuring independent wheel suspension
2001: Development of a mobile live-and-work concept - MaxiMog and trailer
shown at the Museum of Modern Art, New York
2003: Relocation to company-owned facility in Dettenheim
2005: Expansion of UNICAT to the American Continent in partnership with UnicatAmericas
and first expedition vehicles based on US street-legal International 7400 Series and Freightliner Unimog U500 chassis
In the ten years prior to launching UNICAT, Thomas Ritter made a name for himself as a body manufacturer. He then built up a professional organization with a staff of highly qualified specialists who brought a wealth of experience and skills gained over many years. From the beginning, UNICAT's stated goal was to provide optimal solutions and be a reliable ongoing partner to its customers in all matters relating to expedition travel.
